Author Website vs Blog

Having a tough time choosing between a website and a blog. I do like to blog, because it seems to keep my "writing mind" going strong. But now that I have decided to create this Author Site, I was wondering which one I should choose.

But overall, I am going to choose both, but using two different sites to manage (might be a more trouble than it is is worth), but I figure I can use a Blog Directed site (Wordpress), which focuses on text more than graphics, and then a Web Site, for the book, because it may evolve...more pages, speaking videos, awards, reader contact...etc, so it would be better in the long term.

In this short time of using many platforms, I have noticed a few things.

Blogger: While low on templates, does allow more freedom when adding information and media. It is easier to share your content, and you have more flexibility in font type and formatting. It is difficult however in judging the Blog View from the Preview - the type seems to change, so more tweeking is needed.

Wordpress

While the more popular of the group, it is not for the faint of heart, and is truly for a blogger of the written word, with limited ability to change font type, add media, and formatting background (unless you pay). Adding to your home page can be a challenge, and is better suited for someone a little more web/html savvy, or who only wants to get content (and pictures) out about interesting subject matter that is concise (a true computer/web beginner).

Wix

The opposite end of the spectrum this one, while great for a beginner, it has amazing tools for the creative. Sometimes it has too many options to sift through to get what you want, and even then you have to know how to tweek it to your taste. It has a separate blog option, but it is limited in flashy templates, and takes a while to learn how to combine your blog information to your web information without it looking too crowded. It is good for someone that expects to grow in their business or as a writer, into many avenues of media - because as you grow, Wix has the tools ready for you. But sometimes...you don't need so much, it gets in the way of your delivering information, and the more things you have, the more problems can come.

All in all, it depends on what you are writing, who your audience it, and how you want to convey your information. Blogger - for a quick, flashy blog (fashion, movie reviews, gossip). Wordpress - information driven information (news, celebrity/entertainment, trends), Wix - Flash and information (Selling/ Promoting multiple items, video information, the creative...)
